Sister taxa: Smilodectes gracilis, Smilodectes sororis
Type specimen: UW 5021, a mandible (left mandible with P3-4 M1-3). Its type locality is Kistner Locality V-16, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming.
Ecology: arboreal omnivore
Distribution:
• Eocene of United States (39: Colorado, Wyoming collections)
Total: 39 collections each including a single occurrence
