Stratigraphy
Geological group: | Cow Head | Formation: | Shallow Bay | Member: | Downes Point |
Stratigraphic resolution: | group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: Approximately 100m thick. Many of the boulder clasts in the conglomerate appear to have been reworked from older sediments. A number of Middle Cambrina taxa were recovered from clasts in beds believed to be Sunwaptan in age. Note: Represents beds 1-5 from James and Stevens (1986), however fossils found only in beds 3-5. AGE: Arcadian; refined by A. Hendy (6/2009) on the basis of biostratigraphic data. |
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | lithified conglomerate |
Secondary lithology: | lithified lime mudstone |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Lithology description: conglomerates with minor interbeds of lime mudstone and shale, and some grainstone
Environment: | slope |
Geology comments: Part of the Humber Arm allochton in which the source of the allochthonous carbonate sediment is a platform that lay to the west. |
