Stratigraphy
Member:Coralline
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: No formation name; Sandpile Group, "Coralline" member.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:black,gray cherty/siliceous dolomite
Secondary lithology: chert
Lithology description: dolostones, dark-gray black, finely crystalline, weathering brown-gray, in beds mostly 2-8 ft thick, some beds slightly siliceous, chert nodules present (amounting to >5% beds).
Environment:marine indet.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body,replaced with silica
Collection methods and comments
Collection excludes:difficult macrofossils
Collection methods:field collection
Reason for describing collection:taxonomic analysis
Museum repositories:GSC
Taxonomic list comments:"Abundantly fossiliferous in lower 25 ft. with silicified rugose and tabulate corals, very rare brachiopods, some beds with a profusion of single species (e.g., a 6-in Coenites rectilineatus bed), but most with a mixture of many species. Fossils rare in the upper 70 ft." Additionally, authors state that crinoid columns are present "at almost every locality" and unidentified rugose corals "at many localities."
