| Lithology description: The bulk of this has come from the limestone where it has been the subject of Tertiary weathering (O. P. Singleton pers. comm.). Fortunately the weathering process preferentially destroys the matrix of the limestone before destroying the fossils. Thus at the right stage in this process when the matric is soft the fossils can be obtained free of matrix and moderately well preserved. The remainder of the collection is preserved in dense grey limestone. | |
