Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:black,gray lithified calcareous mudstone
Secondary lithology: lithified lime mudstone
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: "light-gray-weathering dark-gray to black strongly calcareous shale. No laminations are evident...; stratification displayed only be presence of richly fossiliferous lenses and layers a few cm thick. The unit becomes fine grained and less calcareous upward." 2003:05:03 changed lithology from "shale" to mudstone. This unit is really a dirty lime mudstone and may be better classified as a lime mustone. I have therefore added this a second lithology.
Environment:deep subtidal ramp Tectonic setting:foreland basin
Glacial or sequence phase:transgressive systems tract
Geology comments: Grades into Kalkberg Limestone below.

2003:05:03 SEP environmental call based on given description and also Laporte (1969). In, Depositional environments in carbonate rocks--A symposium. Special Publication - Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogists. Pages 98-119. Note that this may be better classified as a lime mudstone
