Stratigraphy
Formation: | Unayzah | ||||
Stratigraphy comments: The age of the Unayzah plant bed may therefore be Late Permian, but perhaps early Late Permian rather than the vert late Permian established for the Hazro flora on the basis of fusulinid foraminifera (Fontaine et al. 1980). |
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | "cross stratification",coarse conglomeratic sandstone |
Secondary lithology: | planar lamination,bioturbation,gray mudstone |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Lithology description: weathered, friable, grey shale | |
Environment: | lacustrine indet. |
Geology comments: The parallel orientation of the plant remains and the laminate nature of the shale deposit make it clear that the environment of sedimentation was of low energy and apparently lacustrine. |
