Taxonomy
Deirochelys was named by Agassiz (1857). It is extant. It is the type genus of Deirochelyinae.
It was assigned to Emydinae by Bickham (1975); to Emydidae by Hay (1930), Frank and Ramus (1996), Vlachos (2018); and to Deirochelyinae by Holman (2002), Parham et al. (2008), van Dijk et al. (2014), Weems (2023).
