Taxonomy
Carditamera protracta was named by Conrad (1843) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene; Maryland]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Cardita (Carditamera) protracta by Dall (1903); it was recombined as Cardita protracta by d'Orbigny (1857) and Glenn (1904).
