Simojovelhyus pocitosense

Taxonomy
Simojovelhyus pocitosense was named by Ferrusquía-Villafranca (2006) [type is lost, description is based on casts]. Its type specimen is IHNE 6784, a mandible, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Los Pocitos, which is in an Oligocene lagoonal siltstone in the Simojovel-El Bosque Area Unit C Formation of Mexico. It is the type species of Simojovelhyus.

I. Ferrusquía-Villafranca 2006Differs (Fig. 4) from other helohyids in having molars with a tiny paraconid, and a unique combination of cristids and cuspulids as follows. Cristids: paracristid, anteromesocristid (neomorphic), and anterolingualcristid (neo-morphic) on the trigonid anterior slope, cristid obliqua (short toremnant), and a robust postcristid in the talonid. Cuspulids (small, accessory): mesoconulid, hypoconulid (large and blunt in m3), postmesoconulid (neomorphic), and pseudohypoconulid (neomorphic).
