Distribution: USA: North Carolina, Florida: East Florida, West Florida, Florida Keys; USA: Louisiana, Texas; Mexico: Quintana Roo; Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela: Falcon, Sucre, Isla Margarita; Bermuda, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Surinam, Brazil: Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sao Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul; Uruguay]. It is extant.
It was recombined as Volvulella persimilis by Rosenberg (2005).
