Petenyia dubia was named by Bachmayer and Wilson (1970) [The genus name was spelled Petényia in the original description]. It is not extant. Its type specimen is NHMW 1970/1387 mandible sin. with m1-m3, a mandible.

F. Bachmayer and R. W. Wilson 1970Lower incisor relatively smooth in dorsal profile. Pigmentation present, but not intense as now preserved. Coronoid spicule not especially prominent. Size as in Petényia hungarica.
