Taxonomy
Squalodon bariensis latirostris was named by Capellini (1903) [Kellogg (1923) states that the type specimen is in the Museo geologico dell'Instituto dell'Universita di Padova, Italy. The type locality is 49395.]. Its type specimen is PMPU 26367, a partial skull (partial skull and mandible with no teeth), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Schio, which is in an Aquitanian marine sandstone in the Arenaria di Grumi Formation of Italy.
It was recombined as Eosqualodon latirostris by Rothausen (1968), Sanders et al. (1982), Pilleri (1985), Fornasiero and Del Vavero (2014), Nelson et al. (2025).
