Stenella coeruleoalba
Taxonomy
Delphinus coeruleoalbus was named by Meyen (1833) [original spelling: Delphinus coeruleo-albus]. It is extant. Its type specimen is Zoological Museum, Berlin, a skeleton. Its type locality is Rio de La Plata, which is in a Holocene fluvial horizon in Uruguay.
It was recombined as Lagenorhynchus caeruleoalbus by Gray (1850), Scott (1873); it was recombined as Lagenorhynchus (Electra) coeruleoalbus by Gray (1866); it was recombined as Prodelphinus coeruleoalbus by True (1889); it was recombined as Prodelphinus caeruleoalbus by Trouessart (1904); it was recombined as Stenella coeruleoalbus by Tomilini (1957), Tomilin (1957), Hershkovitz (1966); it was recombined as Stenella caeruleoalba by Scheffer and Rice (1963); it was recombined as Stenella coeruleoalba by Vidal (1991), Rice (1998), Archer and Perrin (1999), Mead and Brownell (2005), Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008), Perrin et al.
