Properiptychus argentinus

Taxonomy
Periptychus argentinus was named by Ameghino (1893). Its type specimen is MACN 11593, a maxilla (portion of maxilla with P3/), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Parana, Pueblo Brugo to Diamante, Parana Fm., which is in a Serravallian estuary/bay mudstone/sandstone in the Parana Formation of Argentina.

It was recombined as Properiptychus argentinus by Ameghino (1897), Muizon and Bond (1982), Cozzuol (1996), Koretsky (2001), Soibelzon and Bond (2013), Berta et al. (2015), Berta et al. (2022), Rule and Park (2024).
