Taxonomy
Hoplocetus ritzi was named by Hampe (2006). Its type specimen is MB.Ma. 50479.1-26, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grosse-Pampau, which is in a Serravallian offshore shelf claystone in the Glimmerton Formation of Germany.
