Taxonomy
Pleurotomaria pericarinata was named by Hall (1847). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Cyclonema pericarinata by Hall (1855), Miller (1874) and Whitfield (1882); it was recombined as Gyronema pericarinatum by Ulrich and Scofield (1897), Bradley (1930) and Thompson (1970).
