Platyspondylia germanica was named by Szyndlar and Rage (2003). It is not extant. Its type specimen is SMNS, 87146-2. Its type locality is Herrlingen 11, which is in a MP 28/MP 30 fissure fill horizon in Germany.

Rage 2003"Differs from Platyspondylia sudrei by having neural spine (in lateral view) shorter, higher and with its anterior border not (or weakly) inclined; by having straight (and not convex) zygosphene (in anterior view); by having smaller parapophyses; by having narrower haemal keel; by having narrower neural canal.
Differs from Platyspondylia suderi and P. lepta by having smaller absolute dimensions; by having cotyles more depressed dorso-ventrally; by having thickened neural spines of posterior trunk vertebrae.
Differs from Platyspondylia lepta by having weakly developed zygosphenal lobes; by having maxilla with the palatine process mroe slender and located more posteriorly (pg. 82)."
