Taxonomy
Scaldicetus degiorgii was named by Varola et al. (1988) [unnumbered specimen in the Cosimo de Giorgi Museum, "O. Costa" Technical Institute, Lecce]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pietra Leccese, which is in a Burdigalian/Messinian transition zone/lower shoreface limestone in the Pietra Leccese Formation of Italy.
