Scaldicetus bellunensis was named by Dal Piaz (1922) [No type specimen number is listed by Dal Piaz (1922).]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Libano, which is in an Aquitanian marine sandstone in the Libano Sandstone Formation of Italy.
