Protognathosaurus oxyodon
Taxonomy
Protognathus oxyodon was named by Zhang (1988). Its type specimen is CHG CV 00732, a mandible (left dentary), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Dashanpu Dinosaur Quarry [lower], which is in a Bajocian/Oxfordian lacustrine sandstone/mudstone in the Shaximiao Formation of China. It is the type species of Protognathus, Protognathosaurus.
It was considered a nomen dubium by Upchurch et al. (2004); it was recombined as Protognathosaurus oxyodon by Olshevsky (1991), Olshevsky (1992), Dong (1997), Martin-Rolland (1999), Peng et al. (2005), Li et al. (2011).
