Taxonomy
Stenodelphis sternbergi was named by Gregory and Kellogg (1927). Its type specimen is AMNH 21905 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is India Street & West Walnut, which is in a Piacenzian marine horizon in the San Diego Formation of California.
It was recombined as Parapontoporia sternbergi by Barnes (1984), Uhen et al. (2008), Geisler et al. (2011), Boessenecker (2013).
