Erectopus superbus
Taxonomy
Megalosaurus superbus was named by Sauvage (1882). Its type specimen is MNHN 2001-4, a maxilla, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bois de la Penthière, Louppy-le-Château, which is in an Albian marine horizon in the La Penthiève Beds Formation of France. It is the type species of Erectopus.
It was recombined as Dryptosaurus superbus by Depéret and Savornin (1928); it was considered a nomen dubium by Galton (1994); it was recombined as Erectopus superbus by Huene (1923), Huene (1926), Huene (1926), Stromer (1931), Kuhn (1939), Molnar and Pledge (1980), Paul (1988), Buffetaut et al. (1991), Molnar et al. (1996), Holtz et al. (2004), Allain (2005), Carrano et al. (2012), Csiki-Sava et al. (2016).
