Taxonomy
Gongxianosaurus was named by He et al. (1998). Its type is Gongxianosaurus shibeiensis.
It was assigned to Sauropoda by He et al. (1998), Luo and Wang (2000), Wilson (2002), Upchurch et al. (2004), Royo-Torres et al. (2006); to Sauropoda by Smith and Pol (2007), Allain and Aquesbi (2008), Yates (2010), Sekiya (2011), Otero and Pol (2013); and to Sauropodiformes by McPhee et al. (2015).
