Morturneria seymourensis

Taxonomy

Turneria seymouriensis was named by Chatterjee and Creisler (1994). Its type specimen is TTU P 9219, a partial skeleton (skull and cervical vertebrae), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Aristonectes parvidens by Gasparini et al. (2003); it was recombined as Morturneria seymourensis by Chatterjee and Creisler (1994), O'Keefe (2001), O'Keefe et al. (2017), O'Gorman et al. (2019), O'Gorman (2019).

Synonyms

Turneria seymourensis was named by Chatterjee and Small (1989). Its type specimen is TTU P 9219, a partial skeleton (skull and cervical vetebrae), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Seymour Island, Klb 9, which is in a Maastrichtian marine siltstone/carbonate in the López de Bertodano Formation of Antarctica. It is the type species of Turneria.

It was replaced with Morturneria seymourensis by Chatterjee and Creisler (1994).

O'Gorman et al. 2019	Deeply arched palate with a medial ventral keel formed anteriorly by the vomer; obliquely oriented internal naris; dentary teeth with procumbent alveoli recurving; internal naris formed by palatine; discrete, round facet for articulation of flared end of pa raoccipital process on squamosal only; eight or nine teeth on premaxilla; at least 38 teeth on maxilla and at least 46 teeth on dentary; procumbent teeth.
