Taxonomy
Dinosorex pachygnathus was named by Engesser (1972). Its type specimen is NMB AL 105, a mandible (Mand. dext. with J2, Z1, Z2, M1, M2.), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Anwil, Baselland, which is in a MN 7 + 8 fluvial-lacustrine horizon in Switzerland.

B. Engesser 1972 | Representant of genus Dinosorex with robust lower jaw and big incisiva, molars relatively small. Talonid depression of lower molars is lingual sorrounded by a ridge, which connects meta- and entoconid. Posterior cingulum of M1 and M2 very strong. The most posterior Antemolar (Zwischenzahn) of upper jaw compared to molars small, M1 sup. with nearly even outer wall, no lengthening of the outer corners. M1 and M2 sup. with split mesostyle, outer cusp shifted to the inner part of the tooth, inner wall with strong dents and small interuption between the inner cusps. M2 sup. compared to M1 relatively big, outer wall is only a little bit sloping downward. Ramus ascendens of madibular steep, Proc. coronoideus turnes outward. |
