Gresslyosaurus ingens
Taxonomy
Gresslyosaurus ingens was named by Rütimeyer (1856). Its type specimen is NMB BM 1, 10, 24, 53, 530-1, 1521, 1572-74, 1576-78, 1582, 1584-85, 1591, a set of postcrania, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Niederschönthal, Liestal, which is in a Sevatian terrestrial conglomerate in the Knollenmergel Formation of Switzerland.
It was recombined as Dinosaurus gressly by Rütimeyer (1856); it was synonymized subjectively with Zanclodon suevicus by Lydekker (1888); it was recombined as Dinosaurus gresslyi by Gaudry (1896); it was recombined as Zanclodon ingens by Nopcsa (1901); it was synonymized subjectively with Plateosaurus engelhardti by Galton (1985), Galton (1986); it was recombined as Plateosaurus ingens by Galton (1998), Smith and Pol (2007), Yates (2010), Apaldetti et al. (2011), Novas et al. (2011), Otero and Pol (2013); it was recombined as Plateosaurus gresslyi by Olshevsky (2000); it was considered a nomen dubium by Galton (2001), Galton (2001), Galton and Upchurch (2004).
