Struthiosaurus transylvanicus
Taxonomy
Struthiosaurus transylvanicus was named by Nopcsa (1915). Its type specimen is BMNH R4966, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Szentpéterfalva, Hateg Basin, which is in a Maastrichtian fluvial sandstone in the Sînpetru Formation of Romania. It was considered monophyletic by Vickaryous et al. (2004).
It was corrected as Struthiosaurus transsylvanicus by Nopcsa (1929); it was synonymized subjectively with Struthiosaurus austriacus by Pereda-Suberbiola and Galton (1992), Pereda-Suberbiola and Galton (1994); it was misspelled as Struthiosaurus transsylvanicus by Lapparent (1947), Mamulea (1953), Jeletzky (1960), Kuhn (1964), Simmons (1965), Charig (1967), Dinca et al. (1971), Coombs (1978), Molnar (1980), Jurcsák (1982), Grigorescu (1984), Pereda Suberbiola and Galton (1997), Ford (2000), Vickaryous et al.
