Taxonomy
Palaeodelphis grandis was named by Du Bus (1872). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Anvers, which is in a Miocene/Pliocene marine horizon in Belgium.
It was recombined as Physodon grandis by Lydekker (1887), Newton (1891), Trouessart (1898), Trouessart (1904); it was recombined as Scaldicetus grandis by Abel (1905), Kellogg (1922), Pilleri (1987), Bianucci (1996), Kazár (2002), Hampe (2006).
