Plesiocetopsis hupschii
Taxonomy
Plesiocetus hupschii was named by Van Beneden (1859) [Steeman (2010) notes that Winge (1909) designated the type to be a specimen described by Van Beneden & Gervais (1880) pl. 16, fig. 17.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Anvers, which is in a Miocene/Pliocene marine horizon in Belgium.
It was recombined as Cetotherium (Plesiocetopsis) hupschii by Brandt (1873); it was recombined as Heterocetus hupschii by Vanden Broeck (1874), Abel (1901); it was recombined as Cetotherium hupschi by Lydekker (1887); it was recombined as Cetotherium (Plesiocetus) hupschi by Newton (1891); it was recombined as Plesiocetopsis hupschii by Steeman (2010), Gol'din and Steeman (2015), Bisconti and Bosselaers (2021).
