Rudicetus squalodontoides
Taxonomy
Priscodelphinus squalodontoides was named by Capellini (1878). Its type specimen is CGC MTIL 12, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pietra Leccese, which is in a Burdigalian/Messinian transition zone/lower shoreface limestone in the Pietra Leccese Formation of Italy. It is the type species of Rudicetus.
It was recombined as Eurhinodelphis squalodontoides by Trouessart (1904); it was recombined as Acrodelphis squalodontoides by Pilleri (1986); it was recombined as Rudicetus squalodontoides by Bianucci (2001), Bianucci and Landini (2002), Peredo et al. (2018).
