Taxonomy
Parapontoporia wilsoni was named by Barnes (1985). Its type specimen is UCMP 83790 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Manresa Beach, north, which is in a Tortonian coastal horizon in the Purisima Formation of California.
