Taxonomy
Preaulophyseter gualichensis was named by Caviglia and Jorge (1980). Its type specimen is MLP 76-IX-5-1 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Puesto Echavez, which is in an Oligocene/Miocene marine horizon in the Gran Bajo del Gualicho Formation of Argentina.
