Taxonomy
Tiphyocetus temblorensis was named by Kellogg (1931). Its type specimen is CAS 4255, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sharktooth Hill, which is in a Langhian shoreface siltstone in the Temblor Formation of California.
