Sotalia fluviatilis
Taxonomy
Delphinus fluviatilis was named by Gervais and Deville (1853). It is extant. Its type locality is Rio Maranon, which is in a Holocene fluvial horizon in Peru.
It was recombined as Steno fluviatilis by Gray (1866), Scott (1873); it was synonymized subjectively with Sotalia tucuxi by Trouessart (1898); it was recombined as Sotalia tucuxi fluviatilis by Trouessart (1904); it was synonymized subjectively with Sotalia pallida by Scheffer and Rice (1963); it was recombined as Sotalia fluviatilis by Hershkovitz (1966), da Silva and Best (1996), Rice (1998), Cunha et al. (2005), Mead and Brownell (2005), Perrin et al. (2013), Jefferson (2021).
It was recombined as Steno fluviatilis by Gray (1866), Scott (1873); it was synonymized subjectively with Sotalia tucuxi by Trouessart (1898); it was recombined as Sotalia tucuxi fluviatilis by Trouessart (1904); it was synonymized subjectively with Sotalia pallida by Scheffer and Rice (1963); it was recombined as Sotalia fluviatilis by Hershkovitz (1966), da Silva and Best (1996), Rice (1998), Cunha et al.
