Pontoporia blainvillei

Taxonomy
Delphinus blainvillei was named by Gervais and d'Orbigny (1844). It is extant. Its type specimen is MNHM unnumbered specimen, a skull (skull). Its type locality is Rio de La Plata, which is in a Holocene fluvial horizon in Uruguay.

It was recombined as Pontoporia blainvillii by Gray (1846), Gray (1850), Gray (1866), Gray (1868), Gray (1871), Scott (1873), Moreno (1888), Geisler et al. (2011); it was recombined as Stenodelphis blainvillei by Trouessart (1898), Trouessart (1904), Gondar (1966); it was recombined as Pontoporia blainvilli by Turner (1912); it was recombined as Pontoporia blainvillei by Van Beneden and Gervais (1880), Ameghino (1889), Hershkovitz (1961), Scheffer and Rice (1963), Hershkovitz (1966), Rice (1998), Bergqvist et al. (1999), Mead and Brownell (2005), Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008), Uhen et al. (2008), Jefferson (2021).
