Taxonomy
Pterocorys was named by Haeckel (1882) [3b. Tribe: Theopilida. Open, triradiate Tricyrtida. A. Theopilida with the second segment triradiate (Pterocorida) (that is, with three ribs or appendages of the middle segment visible). AI. Girdled (aperture of the test smooth or truncate). Ia. With second segment simply latticed. a++ 'With three ribs of the second segment prolonged as spines. (Translated from Latin by E.M.R. and W.R.R.)]. It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by Haeckel (1882), Sharma and Takahashi (2007).

It was assigned to Nassellaria by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pterocorythidae by Haeckel (1882), De Wever et al. (2001), Sharma and Takahashi (2007).
