Jobaria was named by Sereno et al. (1999). Its type is Jobaria tiguidensis.
It was assigned to Neosauropoda by Sekiya (2011); to Diplodocoidea by Carballido et al. (2011); to Macronaria by Upchurch et al. (2004), Allain and Aquesbi (2008), Xing et al.
