A. J. Moore et al. 2023 | Mamenchisaurus sinocanadorum can be distinguished from other known sauropods by the following autapomorphies: (1) exceptionally elongate external mandibular fenestra (length:height ratio in lateral view 1⁄4 3.7); (2) ventral surface of the axis possesses a deep, trough-like depression that contains several pneumatic foramina anteriorly; and (3) large, irregularly developed, paramedian pneumatic foramina that are flush with the surrounding ventral surface of cervical vertebra 3. In addition, M. sinocanadorum exhibits the following unique combination of character states: (1) parallel-sided tooth crowns in labial view; (2) a distolingual boss on some of the dentary teeth; (3) an anterior surangular foramen at least twice as large in its greatest diameter as the posterior surangular foramen; and (4) an essentially straight axial SPOL combined with a relatively low neural spine (neural spine:neural arch height ratio <0.45). |
