It was assigned to Diorocetidae by Steeman (2007); to Mysticeti by Uhen et al. (2008); to Balaenopteroidea by Marx and Fordyce (2015); to Cetotheriidae by Kellogg (1969), Gottfried et al. (1994), McKenna and Bell (1997), Whitmore and Barnes (2008), Berta (2017); and to Balaenomorpha by Hampe and Fahlke (2022).
