Taxonomy
Microcetus sharkovi was named by Dubrovo and Sharkov (1971). Its type locality is Karagiya, which is in a Chattian marine phosphorite/siltstone in the Karaginskaya Formation of Kazakhstan.
It was considered a nomen dubium by Fordyce and de Muizon (2001).
