Taxonomy

Triisodon quivirensis was named by Cope (1881) [genotype]. It is the type species of Triisodon.

Synonyms

Sarcothraustes antiquus was named by Cope (1882) [genotype]. It is the type species of Sarcothraustes.

It was recombined as Mioclaenus antiquus by Cope (1888); it was recombined as Triisodon antiquus by Matthew and Granger (1921), Matthew (1937) and Tomida (1981); it was synonymized subjectively with Triisodon quivirensis by Van Valen (1978) and Williamson (1996).
Triisodon conidens was named by Cope (1882).

It was synonymized subjectively with Sarcothraustes antiquus by Matthew (1897) and Hay (1902); it was synonymized subjectively with Triisodon antiquus by Matthew (1937); it was synonymized subjectively with Triisodon quivirensis by Van Valen (1978) and Williamson (1996).
