Taxonomy
Merycodus altidens was named by Matthew (1924). Its type locality is Aphelops Draw Quarries, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in the Snake Creek Formation of Nebraska.
It was recombined as Capromeryx altidens by Hesse (1935), Hesse (1936), Stirton (1938); it was recombined as Texoceros altidens by Frick (1937), Dalquest (1983), Janis and Manning (1998).
