Taxonomy
Tetonius tenuiculus was named by Jepsen (1930) [type is from "about two miles east of the old Otto-Basin road crossing on Dorsey Creek and well south of the road"]. Its type specimen is YPM 13027, a maxilla (right maxilla with P4-M3), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Paratetonius tenuiculus by Gazin (1952); it was recombined as Tetonoides tenuiculus by Gazin (1962), Savage and Waters (1978), Bown (1979) and Gingerich (1981); it was synonymized subjectively with Tetonius musculus by Delson (1971); it was recombined as Anemorhysis tenuiculus by Bown (1974), Szalay (1976); it was recombined as Teilhardina tenuicula by Bown and Rose (1987), Bown and Rose (1991).
