Procamelus longurio was named by Hay (1921).

It was recombined as Tanupolama longurio by Schultz (1937), Gazin (1942), Webb (1965); it was considered a nomen dubium by Savage (1951), Hibbard and Dalquest (1962), Webb (1974), Honey et al. (1998).
