Taxonomy
Cyathophyllum mactra was named by Goldfuss (1826). Its type specimen is BIOB-PB-Goldfuss-193, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Thecocyathus mactra by Milne Edwards and Haime (1848).
