Taxonomy
Merycodus nevadensis was named by Merriam (1911). Its type specimen is UCMP 12608, a mandible (a lower jaw with m1 to m3), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Cosoryx (Paracosoryx) nevadensis by Frick (1937); it was recombined as Paracosoryx nevadensis by Tedford et al. (1987), Davis (2007).
