Barrandeoceratida was named by Flower and Kummel (1950) [this is the publication in which Barrandeoceratida was first named. The authority proper is Flower 1950 ]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as the suborder Barrandeocerina by Shevyrev (2006); it was corrected as Barrandeocerida by Teichert et al. (1964), Crick (1981), Chen et al. (1981), Sepkoski (2002), Kröger (2013).

It was assigned to Nautiloidea by Teichert et al. (1964), Turek (1975), Crick (1981), Chen et al. (1981); to Basslerocerida by Shevyrev (2006); and to Cephalopoda by Sepkoski (2002), Kröger (2013).
