Merriamoceros coronatus
Taxonomy
Merycodus coronatus was named by Merriam (1913). Its type specimen is UCMP 20052, a partial skull (a single fragmentary horn or antler), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Barstow (UCMP 2057), which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in the Barstow Formation of California. It is the type species of Ramoceros (Merriamoceros).
It was recombined as Ramoceros (Merriamoceros) coronatus by Frick (1937); it was recombined as Merriamoceros coronatus by Gregory (1942), Janis and Manning (1998).
