Vermetus (Vermetus) nigeriensis was named by Adegoke (1977). Its type specimen is UIMG 251 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ewekoro Quarry, which is in a Selandian open shallow subtidal packstone in the Ewekoro Formation of Nigeria.
