Taxonomy
Muntiacus zhaotongensis was named by Dong et al. (2014). Its type specimen is ZT-07-01-245, an other (A nearly complete right antler with pedicle), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Zhaotong hominoid site, which is in a Miocene terrestrial lignite in China.
